Remote AC or DC Isolated Powering
The Positron Power Isolator can deliver a high-voltage isolated source of 24Vdc or 48Vdc
This effectively enables one to bring either 120Vac or Station Battery DC power to any point, irrespective of the local ground potential. Each isolation transformer provides a dielectric strength of 50kV rms to isolate the power inputs and outputs of the unit. Ideally, the conductor placed between the two units should have a dielectric strength (referenced to local ground) in the same range, so that the conductors do not become the weakest link.
Representing the latest in high-voltage isolation and power electronics, Positron’s new Power Isolator system enables a source of isolated power wherever it is needed.
Positron’s Power Isolator technology provides a source of power free from any remote ground reference. This means a power source immune to sudden high-voltage disturbances.
Housed in two 12” x 14” x 6” NEMA 4X rated fibreglass closures, each closure contains sophisticated power conversion electronics partnered with Positron’s unique high-voltage isolation transformers, separated by thousands of feet of 18AWG copper conductors.
Isolation of 50kVrms (continuous) is achieved when the 18 AWG electrical conductors are isolated by high-voltage isolation transformers. The 18 AWG conductors should be contained in Schedule 80 PVC conduit between the Power Isolator’s input and output units to achieve the highest level of high-voltage isolation possible. The Power Input and Power Output Units can be separated as little as 3 feet and by more than 2000 feet of 18 AWG copper conductors.
The Positron Power Isolator 100 System can deliver an output of 100W @ 48Vdc that is fully isolated from any high-voltage or remote ground influence. Powered from a source of either 120Vac or floating 130Vdc from a substation battery, you can bring 100W @ 48Vdc output power to any point, irrespective of the local ground potential.
The Power Isolator 100 System is suitable to provide isolated power to a Copper Fiber Junction (CFJ) of a hybrid-fiber high-voltage communications isolation installation, or an all-dielectric Fiber-Fiber Junction (FFI) either located inside or outside of the Zone of Influence of a power station.
With Positron’s breakthrough power electronics coupled with its high-voltage isolation solutions, additional models are planned for high power outputs (200W, 300W, etc.). Power isolators can be manufactured operating with different input voltages and providing different output voltages, regulated or unregulated.
